alien identification
The US actually does give identification cards to illegal aliens. The alien gets his photo taken along with fingerprints and given a number that begins with the letter "A" which means alien. The photo and prints are on file with the INS. Then the person is deported. If the person is caught again in the US, the file is checked, and if there is an alien number which shows a previous violation of immigration laws then the person is severely penalized for the second violation. The US does not give legal status along with the id, but the person maintains his illegal status and is deported. The name used on the id is the name given to the INS, but the INS doesn't necessarily believe that is the person's real name, nor does it believe any other information that is given, including how long the person has been in the US, without proof.
