Hi Noemi,

I don't know if you can find lemongrass (limonsillo) where you are, but it makes the best tea for colds. You can make it in various ways. My family always used a combination of lemongrass, limes, cinnamon, and honey. It really works, by the way. My husband, who is a born and raised Pittsburgher, had nerver of course heard of this concoction before he met me. Now, it is the only thing he asks for when he has a bad cold :-)

Regards,

Natasha

Forgot to tell you that to make this, you just boil the lemongrass, cut limes, and *stick* cinnamon in water, perhaps enough for two servings. Add honey to sweeten.

By the way, since lemongrass is commonly used in Thai and Vietnamese cooking, I find it in Asian grocery stores here in the DC/Arlington area.

Regards, Natasha

I know many of the remedios y pulgantes of the North American indigenous people, but not the Caribbean. I would be interested in learning more. Are there any books about it? My husband also uses the recipe Natasha gives us. There is mamajuana too. Does the DR use cat's claw? I know Puerto Ricans do. These are things that are valuable to preserve and to pass on; and for the Europeans who come to learn about and appreciate before a lot of these things are lost.
