Sancocho is a famous dish. Three major cities are Santo Domingo, Santiago and La Romana. The Plaza de la Cultura is a major cultural site. The weather is partly cloudy with chance of rain showers.

Enjoy the sancocho. Can someone explain what sancocho is? I hope you see the wonderful historical sites in Santo Domingo, the first European/American city in this hemisphere. The Dominican people are wonderful people. The same cautions apply for any other major cities, where you are not familiar with the streets.

I was told, of course, by a Dominican, that sancocho originated when people would get together and everyone would bring something different for their feast. Hence sancocho is made up of chicken, beef and pork. Vegetables vary but usually hav yuca, plantano, auyama (squash) and other types of roots. It is a delicious mix and to my clients I describe it as being a Canadian/Dominican stew!
