shopping

I'll be spending 2 weeks in January 2000 in Dom. Republic (Puerto Plata), and I wonder if anyone can tell me if there are any shops there (or in the nearby cities) where I can buy some NORMAL casual summer clothes...and what are the prices??? This sounds very stupid I guess... but as I live in Norway I'll not be able to find anything suitable here until next summer...

In Puerto Plata, there are plenty of places to buy all kinds of clothes, including casual summer cloths and even clothes for the disco. You'll find some bargains as well lots of designer labels. I equate the experience to shopping along the bargain basement shops along streets of NYC. Presentation isn't the finest but there is quantity and decent prices, many of which I found to be far below prices typically found at a shopping mall in the USA, yet slightly higher than the most discount clothing stores. Any taxi driver can take you to the area with all the shops.

Shopping in Puerto Plata is very good .. as Jim mentioned... some of the stores are away from the main transit... should you wish specific shops... please e-mail me. I will be happy to give you names and directions.
