Default Visiting other hotels(PC)

Since you can walk along the beach past many hotels, is it ok/safe to walk around/explore other hotels (grounds and lobbys)?

Yes it is safe, but you usually need permission to explore the other resorts.

How safe is it to walk around Puerto Plata at night and to walk between hotels at night? Also how safe are the taxis? Thanks for any advice

illona, I assume from your two posts that this is your first trip to Puerto Plata (Playa Dorada). In response to your first post, JTV is a beautiful property, in a beautiful resort complex, in a beautiful country! You have nothing to be concerned about. I know how you feel though, before my first visit to DR in 1997, I had all the misconceptions in my head about this "dangerous" place! NOT!!! Safety is not an issue at playa dorado. People, young and old, stroll through the complex at night from disco to disco, casino to casino, etc. It is extremely peaceful at night. As for Puerto Plata (the town itself is 10 minutes away) at night, it too is safe. Just be sure to use the same "safety rules of thumb" that you would use anywhere else. As for taxis, I've never heard of any problems with cabs or cab drivers. Just make sure you settle on a price before you leave. Don't worry, you'll have a great time!
