Default Attention Jim & Tom

I've asked these two questions on this board and nobody replied. I respect your opinions and advise, perhaps you can help me out as I'm leaving in four days: 1. In Puerto Plata, do you know if there are any baseball games during the period of January 25-30; where I can purchase tickets and how much are they? 2. Again in the PP area, are there any plantations tourists can visit, ie banana, sugar cane, fields and fields with tons of fruit and/or vegetables? Thanks!

I can't help with the baseball. There are tours just like you describe, and no significant advance reservations will be required. Your best bet is to contact the resort where you will be staying to arrange these things, or one of the many many tour operators that have offices in the area.

1) I am not sure which team or teams play in the stadium in PP. They don't have a team with the professional league but have been trying for some time now. Your best bet is to go to Santiago, it's only an hour away. You will have to check the schedule posted on this board.

2) The "plantations" in the Puerto Plata area are not places where tourist go and visit. You can see the country side via a jeep, pick-up truck or military vehicle with tour operators or rent a jeep or motorcycle yourself and explore. Sugar cane fields are around PP. I'm not sure when harvest is but you can see the big tractors or oxen teams in the fields and on the roads to Montellano at certain times of the year. Fruits and vegetables are produced mostly by small farmers around the country. You would have to explore and find interesting places to visit. Contanza has the best scenery in relation to agricultural production, but that is a trip from PP.

One couple staying at Caribbean Village Playa Grande posted "We and two other couples sat in the back of a Toyota 4 wheel drive pickup that was equipped with bench seats and roll bars. ... Our first several stops were at fruit plantations, out in the country. ... We sampled, right off the tree, mango, passion fruit, banana, coconut, orange, grapefruit, sweet lemon and two types of limes. ..." Unfortunately, they only identified themselves as Mark and Theresa and did not post their E-mail address.

From a past post: baseball winter league, Eddie Wood (stamplaw@mbay.net) -- Friday, 30 October 1998 - Playoffs in the DR are from 13 enero to 28 enero, and the Caribbean playoffs are after that. The Commissioner's office is 809-562-4737, with a listed email address of puelloherrera@codetel.net.do.

Haven't seen a message from you in ages. I was thinking you were still there. Did you make it to Haiti? How was Christmas?
