As a former student at GU (Class of '61!), let me help u a bit. The PRSC has an Executive body headed by Donald Reid Cabral. There are umpteen other members. As Willy has stated the candidate is Joaquin Balaguer for this year's elections and his Vice-President is Jacinto Peynado. Balaguer is the "leader", and everyone follows his ideas and suggestions, that's for sure. However, strange as it may seem, in this time of uncertainty, he seems to represent for a large percentage of the population a "known", and as such, he seems to be gaining in the polls. The current party is gonna get whomped, that is for sure. Whether the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) can make the voters forget 1978-1986 is another matter. Their candidate, Hipólito Mejía, is considered to be somewhat 'rough around the edges', but that is superficial. He is a successful businessman and an astute politician. His VP is a WOMAN!, eegads! But she is a very good political worker and has a good record. Her name is Milagros (Miracle) Ortiz Bosch. Contrary to other years, both candidates of the PRD are light colored, and therefore have liberated them from the obvious Haitian ties of former candidate Jose Francisco Peña Gomez who was questioned relentlessly as to his place of birth. It ain't nice but it is Dominican politics. Hope this helps a bit. Give me a hollar if'n you need more. HB P.S> did you know Shana Glennon, Class of '99? Or has that place gotten so big ? PPS Claim to fame: I put Pat Buchanan on his butt back in 57...

Default PRSC: (12 years of MURDER)

Who could forget the "12 years" of the murderous Joaquin Balaguer. Under his leadership, many Dominicans were killed, tortured and/or "disappeared" for not supporting his corrupt administration.

Yeah, but let's not forget that was a post revolution administration, and that it was in the heat of the cold war (late 60's and 70's), many policemen and military service men died in the hands of members of the Dominican Comunist Party (PCD) too.

I am not justifying political killing, I am just trying to see the situation from another perspective, 30 years ago, the world was very different from what it is today.

Balaguer, bad as it may be, is responsible for contructing 95% of the Dominican infraestructure, he was the creator of the Dominican middle class, and many people have a roof over their heads because of Joaquin Balaguer.

Let's net look at the work with red tinted glasses, there are two sides to everything.
