Default Should I leave my Cellphone home?

I'm leaving for the Paradisus Punta Cana on Friday. Does anyone know if my Cellphone will work in Punta Cana or should I leave it at home? Thanks, and a full report of my trip will be posted here upon my return.

Personally I would leave it. I don't know why you would want to bring it along.

If it is analog compatible (some new digitals do not work on analog systems, but most are dual analog/digital) with the USA system, it will work (outgoing calls only). You can buy a calling card to use it for outgoing calls at Plaza Bavaro (in the pharmacy).

Would a Bell Canada cell phone work in Puerto Plata? Do you have to buy a phone in the DR or can I use mine from home? I need to only make calls to Puerto Plata and Sosua on it, not long distance to Canada.

Only if you have little ones at home.. pull the plug and relax in our paradise-island.

Enjoy your stay.

I have no way of knowing if your phone would work. I doesn't matter where you are going to call. I was able to make calls using my USA analog system compatible phone in Punta Cana. Ask your carrier if your phone will work in the USA, and if it is analog capable.

No GSM service is available in the Dominican Republic. It won't work here. Only CDMA service is used.
