Here's some info on the best surfing spot. If you need a place to stay within walking distance of Playa Encuentro email us. We have a condo available for rent. http://www.drpure.com/surfing/index.html

Yes, order The Surf Report - Dominican Republic from Surfer Magazine. It is a bit dated, but full of information on surfing in the Dominican Republic. http://www.surfermag.com/travel/

There are good waves about 20 miles east of Puerto Plata, just before Cabarete, at Playa Encuentro. There are also surfable spots in Puerto Plata and Sosua, and more spots on the north coast of Samana (further east) at Playa Bonita and even further east, an hour north of Bavaro.

The south coast breaks year-round in downtown Santo Domingo (Guibia: polluted) and at another spot near the airport. The southwest is mostly a summer destination, but has powerful swells at places like Barrucho Rivermouth.

You can find boards to rent or have dings repaired at the windsurfing shops in Cabarete or at a couple of surf shops in Santo Domingo. Water never drops below 80 degrees F., but bring a vest for cool breezes and wax rash, and you may want booties for the coral.
