Info on 2001 Merengue Festival SD

Does anyone have information on the 2001 Santo Domingo merengue festival, i.e. dates and any information at all on events, acts, etc.?

Has anyone ever been to one of the Santo Domingo merengue festivals before? Any chance you could provide a description of the festivities?

The Merengue Festival in SD usually is held on the last week of July. It used to be quite a spectacular event. However the last two years it has been moved to the Avenida Puerta and is not so great. Can anyone tell me why it was movewd?
