Typically today the rates at exchange dealers are
16.70 for US$ and 10.50 for CAD $
If you divide these numbers you get the US CAD exchange rate
of 1.59
As you say you can exchange your canadian at 1.51
your gain will be 8 cents per dollar.
For each time you exchange US$ 100 you will gain
$ 8.00 at 16.70 that's a 130 peso.
that's three presidentes and a tip.
So it is clear that you need to buy US$ travelers checks and
some cash at home.
There is no doubt about it.
