Default Building Works - Sirenis Cocotal Beach Resort

We have been told of a BBC Watchdog programme that went on-air this week regarding ongoing building works at the Sirenis Cocotal Beach Resort(report follows)in which 40 people have made complaints to Airtours. We would be grateful for a reply from anyone who has experienced this during their stay, as we are due to fly to the resort in the next few weeks ourselves and have received nothing from Airtours direct.

For the last two weeks holidaymakers have been travelling to Airtours' new holiday destination, the Sirenis Cocotel Beach Resort in the Dominican Republic, despite it not being finished. A new complex is also currently being built beside it.

In the Airtours brochure it says it is ideal for those seeking a holiday away from the hustle and bustle of a busy resort. Holidays cost up to £1,800 for a fortnight, but the photos in the brochure are only an artist's impression. The August Airtours brochure promised the resort would be completed in October, but the next edition of the brochure said it wouldn't be completed until December.

Weekend Watchdog spoke to Angela and Paul Culver who booked a fortnight's holiday at the Sirenis Cocotel Beach Resort for early January.

They paid £1,236 and were a bit concerned about the sketches in their brochure. Angela told Weekend Watchdog:
"We phoned Airtours and our travel agent to check on the progress of the hotel and in November we were told that the resort was completed and building work was finished."

ABTA has a code of conduct whereby your travel agent or tour operator has to make customers aware of building works at a hotel.

Another couple were faxed confirmation saying there was not any building work due to be completed at the resort when they arrived. But Angela says:
"There were workmen everywhere, the gardens were still being landscaped, the sauna and jacuzzi weren't working, there was rubbish everywhere. It was disruptive, it was messy and completely ruined the holiday."

Something else the Culvers hadn't expected to be included in their all-inclusive were mosquitoes. The numbers of bugs in the Sirenis Cocotel made life there unbearable.

Weekend Watchdog spoke to 40 people who've been in the Sirenis Cocotel Beach resort who have all complained about the mosquitoes and the building works.

Airtours says it has now received full details of Mr and Mrs Culvers' complaints, which it is investigating with the utmost urgency, and the company will be contacting them shortly.

The Sirenis Hotel Group says it is truly sorry for any inconvenience caused.
