I will also be there those two weeks. I played Playa Dorada a few times when I was there in '97, and from what I have heard, things haven't changed much. Perhaps I'm wrong and someone can provide a more current insight. You might be interested in seeing my post below about the Barcelo Bavaro Course - conditions on the two are similar, although as I recall, on the whole, I'd say Playa Dorada is an easier golf course to maintain and the conditions in most areas are better the BB. We decided on POP (Jack Tar) because we are going with a couple of other people that are novice golfers and this course will be easier on them. Don't get me wrong, it's still interesting. One of many Robert Trent Jones designs scattered around the Caribbean.

In the final analysis though, my advice is always "Don't go to the Caribbean to play golf, play golf while you're in the Caribbean." Most Americans are disappointed in the conditioning of most of the courses.

We didn't have to worry about reservations especially after 1 pm. I'm sure you could reserve once you get there. AM tee times were busiest around 9-11 am. The 7-9 slots didn't appear to be that bad. We found the course to be be in good playing condition. As you would expect, there was a lot of dew on the course until quite late in the morning. If you want a couple of good caddies, just ask for John and Jorkey.
