Default Re: DRIVING FROM PUNTA TO SAMANA

The car ferry is not operational yet and the best way to get from Punta Cana to Samana is to fly private charter into Samana's Arroyo Barril airport or the airstrip at El Portillo. If you drive, you must go west through Santo Domingo and then come north on the Duarte Autopista to the San Francisco de Macoris cutoff and then to Nagua and then Samana- alltogether the better part of an all-day drive. Same goes true for return. Why not fly and cover the Punta Cana to Samana distance in about 30 minutes and rent a car when you get to Samana if you are staying?

Default Yeah, go the other way around!!

Instead of going to the East and La Romana, go west and North to Puerto Plata first, then the coastal hwy to Samana and then back around to San Francisco de Marcoris (or Pimentel- Cotui-Piedra Blanca if you are adventerous)and on downto Santo Domingo, and out to La Romana.
YOur way you have to go East, then back West, then North, then East than west then South then East to get back..Seems too complicated. Again, I say, unless you want to travel the back roads and are not in any hurry to get anywhere.

Go to a Texaco Station and pay RD$25 for a map...

You could go thru Hato Mayor and Cenoví...might be interesting..Really!!

Have fun, take sun screen and bug spray any a change or two of clothing!!
