Default wedding in the DR

My daughter, 22, would like to get married around 8/18/01. Can you have a ceremony performed at one of the hotels in the DR? She does not have a particular religious denomination. what would the necessary papers involve? What about the time period? Are there any websites with the complete information?

Most beach hotels will be able to assist you in organizing your wedding. We suggest you choose the hotel that best suits your budget and then request information about their wedding plans.

Marriage paperwork:

I. Marriage license requirements:
Passport
Original birth certificate
Single status affidavit in Spanish
You will also need two witnesses. If these are foreigners, they will need to identify themselves with their passports. If they are Dominicans, "cédulas" are sufficient.

II. After the marriage:
The justice of peace may deliver the actual wedding certificate the next day, depending on work load. This document is a valid legal document.

DR1 has given you the legal requirements. I believe that there is also a short (like 2 days or so) residence requirement. As a 4 time visitor to the Gran Ventana Beach Resort I have seen a number of weddings. They have a special little cabana near the beach where these are performed and offer many little items to make the event truly memorable. Possibly the other resorts do similar things but as an observer I am impressed with what I have seen at Gran Ventana and would suggest you get in touch with them. If you post a request here on the board someone may come up with an e-mail address for them and/or a phone number.

Enjoy
