i will say go ahead,, chicago will stay there and you will be able to return anytime.. when i was 30 i went to work in Puertoplata.. i went for 6 months and i stayed 5 years, I got married..and i came back to Quebec with my husband. we now have 11 years back here, we go every year and twice and more.. but we prepare the futur,, in 3 years we will return forever. we builted an house and we are planing to open a B&B.
one condition you have to put: go for yourself not for somebody you met during your holiday.. learn spanish if you dont speak it already and find a job with hotel , airlines o tourism cie. it was the best time of my life the time i leaved in DR I am now 45 years old, still in love with my dominican lover and i never regret.............good luck

Cathy, Marie is right, I will tell you the same thing... come for yourself not somebody else.... I have been here twelve years myself but not for a Dominican...still don't have one, and life is pretty good under the palm trees. If you want, you can e-mail me....Cheers and good luck.
