Default Simple Lives?

Beware of generalizations such as "life is so easy there " or Dominicans have "simple lives." Especially if you have yet to live there. While my Dominican wife was still living in Santo Domingo life was certainly not as carefree as the tourists on vacation may have thought. On a monthly salary of about $3400 pesos it was always a struggle to pay rent ($2500) on time, pay the women who washes the clothes every other week ($500), eat two good meals a day , and still send money to her family in La Vega. Never mind the time she had a kidney infection ($7000). I would agree with the other posters who advised you to follow your heart. They're right, you do only live once. However, be forewarned that the brief glimpse of Dominican life you may have seen on vacation certainly is not representative of daily life in Santo Domingo.
