Is this correct?

In three weeks time I need to get from La Romana Airport to the Occidental Flamenco Bavaro Hotel, Punta Cana by Taxi.

I've been informed that this will cost US$80 each way. Is this a fair estimate?

Even at UK prices which are totally extortionate this seems a bit steep to me.

I think, it should be USD 35.- to 40.- rather than USD 80.- (this is the price from Punta Cana to Santo Domingo!)

That equates to US$1.60 per mile. Forgive my ignorance but is gas that expensive in the DR?

Fair enough. I'll go with that. In the UK we are paying US$4.95 per gallon so it's not a bad deal!

Mind you, a 50 mile taxi RETURN journey to my local Airport in the UK only costs US$68 and that's at US$4.95 per gallon.

I wonder what the extra US$92 goes towards? Repayments on a Merc?

You have to understand he has to go home emty "probably" but I think 60.00 is more a proper price. If I put in relation to the fares I know, and that I've taken.

What about finding a publico, and renting all seats, still would be cheaper than a taxi. I don't know the area, and perhaps it is not feasable. I can go by publico with my husband from Sosua to the airport (POP airport) for $4US, whereas a taxi charges $20US.
I don't recommend renting a car, you have to know how to drive like a crazy person to drive in the DR.
