Re: Tears for Carol's eyes - what?!
Oh come on JoAnn, you can't possibly believe your own words! Do you really expect most people on this board to somewhow believe that the "freeing" of the slaves in the US was not entirely due to ECONOMICS, and to a lesser extent, pressure from *true* abolitionists (both black and white). Now, I am not trying to diminish what Mr. Lincoln stands for in American history (I get giddy myself everytime I take a visitor to the Lincoln Memorial here in DC), but I think we now know much more about the motives behind the "granting of freedom" to the US slaves, don't you think?
I find your other statement even more disturbing. You say, "If it wasn't for their "brothers" in their homeland, they NEVER would have been slaves here in the US." Can you please explain what you mean by this statement? What are you suggesting? Now, I have a hunch: I think I can predict what your "explanations" might be, but I will leave it to you to enlighten us.
Lastly, I think you should read the thread more carefully. There was NO black man that wanted to burn the US flag JoAnn.
Regards,
Natasha
