Legal Drinking Age
I am travelling to DR in June or July and I am interested to know what the legal drinking age is.

If you do a search of the archives, you will notice this topic has been discussed more than the weather.

Re: GUILTY
Rob, you are guilty, as are several others on the board. Some one asked a simple question....what is the legal drinking age? You reply with some disdain, albeit politely, that they could have found the answer in the archives. It has been discussed many times you said (actually 9 times in the last year when I plugged in "Drinking age" for the last 52 weeks). It is probably well known on this board that I have nothing better to do to entertain myself than "hang out here" and therefore should be familiar with the questions and those answered in the archives. However, maybe THIS individual is visiting the board for the first time and would like a quick answer to their quick question. They may also be relatively new to computers and/or message boards and not be familiar with archive systems. I try to be polite even when I respond to that dummy from Maine or that cigar smoking "country boy" from West "by God" Virginia! Something to think about..... unless of course your thinking system is like mine....akin to the electrical system here that comes and goes....one day my thinking ability will go and not come back I fear....of course that may happen with the electricity also!!! Re: GUILTY
Your right!
I'm inquisitive by nature and would have had a good look before I asked a question. We are all different, what appears logical to me, isn't necessarily logical to another.
Back to the question...
If the person used "my" logical thought pattern and searched the archives.
They would have noticed that the legal drinking age may be 18, but in real terms if your tall enough to put your header over the counter, you can buy a beer in most cases :-)

Re: *** 18 ***
Why is it that people can't get a simple response to a simple question. Referring people to the research end of the page took more typing than the simple answer would have. Good job!

Re: GUILTY
Rob; when I first came to this board, I was asking questions that were asked aplenty. Sometimes when I recieved answers(and this still happens)the person was so ticked off at seeing this question come up again, that "once in awhile" the person would answer with sarcasm and me with my "ready to argue attitude", well we'd be off to the races. So what I am suggesting is a section of DR1 to be devoted to FAQ as soon as the question has been asked .....say 10 times and has a definite answer, and it would have to be DEFINITE,....then maybe it could automatically be posted in the FAQ section.....is this a possibility? What I mean is questions like...where is the best beach?....what is the best rum?......JUST KIDDING...LOL..but questions like how far from Boca Chica to Santo Domingo......and what is the highest mountain in D.R. and so on.....not probable Rob?

Re: GUILTY
Sounds to me like an excellent suggestion, Doug! Maybe we should entitle the FAQ "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the DR, But Were Afraid to Ask (the Board)"! :-)

Re: Actually....
And someone new to the board would know what is frequently asked how? That seems to be almost a governmental approach. Why not either answer the question or leave it alone and let some one else answer it. Sarcastic referrals to look elsewhere are not an attractive approach to serve the people who come to use this service!
Just a thought!

Re: Telling people to check the archives ...
Questions even as simple as what is the drinking age have turned into long threads that have lots of information. They include opinions, from where and how the laws are enforced, to the validity of the drinking age itself, to discrimination in enforcement between Dominicans and tourists.
It may seem sarcastic and unhelpful to direct people to the archives, but that is often better than just giving the short answer. Better to not duplicate what is already there by starting another endless thread with all the same information.
It is proper message board etiquette, way back from the days of bulletin boards and continuing with USENET, to check the Frequently Asked Questions or other history before posting a question. Those that are new and don't know the etiquette, should learn it, else they will be told it. Not much different from typing in all capitals, refraining from posting with the subject line only, posting ME TOO type comments, or posting multiple copies of the same message when nobody responds.
Nearly EVERYBODY that contributes to a Usenet or board or forum is there to help, give advice, or otherwise contribute an opinion, regardless of how callous some of the responses may seem.
