Info Requested: Living in D.R. for 4 months

Hi There,
I am a Canadian who would like to live in the DR for a few months during the winter - in a place such as Sosua.

Could someone tell me if there are apartments to rent, cost, etc... and what I should expect as far as cost of living, hazards, govn't regulations?

You will find loads of apartments to let in Sosua (Prices range from $350 to $800 Cdn.)General rule is closer to beach the more you will pay...

Cost of living.....A little higher then Canada.
If you buy imported you pay a lot more..(example. soup tin $3.00 Cdn.)

Govn't regulations....There arn't any!

There has been so much discussion with regard to living in the DR - check the archieved posts, valuable info there!

I lived in Sosua in a guesthouse in El Batey. There was no generator (if that is important to you), and it was rather small. It was furnished with a bed and bath (toilet,shower), and it cost me 2100 RD/month, which is about $210 Canadian. If you want to e-mail me, I will give you directions, as she usually has one room available. I also know another lady who rents out her rooms, which are very nice, and may run you about $300 Cdn. Her father is of the Bermudez family, and the house and accomodations are beautiful. Third option: e-mail Eddy, he may have something available on a monthly basis. His condos are fabulous, highly recommended. Check out link below.
Cost of living is similar, and if you buy Dominican-made products, you will be saving a little bit of money. Take with you enough shampoo, toothpaste, shaving cream/razors, etc. to last you, as you will be glad you did. More expensive there.
