F*** The Police

I'm sorry to put that way! But I need to vent! I just read how the police killed a person 2 days ago and 2 more yesterday, in a neighborhood in the capital. That's 500 people murdered by the police since Candelier became chief of police. And guess how many of those killer cops are in jail or even fired? When will somebody do something about this? When will they fire this a**hole chief of police, who incites his troops to eliminate the "undesirables" in the name of reducing crime? Has crime been reduced at all since he took power? When will they dismantle these death squads and form a real police force? Hast cuando...dios mio?

when will somebody do something about this?
how about you?instead of waiting for somebody else to do something.
how about joining the policeforce in order to get into a position where you "can do something"?
how about politics?don't like the parties which exist?fine build your own and promote your ideas.who knows you may even become president and can correct everything or at least get things moving in the right direction!?
it really doesn't help all that much calling shots from the outside.changes have to be made from the inside.so come back to your homecountry and follow the slogan:
"my beloved country what can i do for you"!!

Just wondering in the meantime where will they put all the people they arrest for murder, robberies and other serious crimes. The jails are full and overflowing.
The police are often very afraid of the criminals they are after as the criminals have more street experience and practice with weapons than they do. Many of the criminals here seem to prefer to risk death than be captured and go to jail which makes them very dangerous indeed.
Maybe the police do not really get paid enough to feel they should put their own life at risk and would rather shoot first to ensure their own health.
Just some thoughts.

Yeah, william Leslie is pretty much right... It's quite easy to be so politically correct when one doesn't have to go down in the barrios and do the dirty job of dealing with dangerous "tigres"... This generation, especially guys coming back from NYC, needs to understand how to live with respect for the others... Easy money with thieving, killing, drugs and prostitution, well, sometime you get killed for that... So long, folks... M.

best would be:feed them heavy duty criminals to the sharks and there is imediate silence in society,more space in jail but propably a huge uproar from the human right group.

We don't see the daily things officers see and face. It's horrible. My father was an officer in NY and that changed my views. As far as I am concerned people deserve what they get. Police follow trouble. If you not doing anything wrong...then why would they be after you or following you?

Apparently none of you have never had to deal with Dominican police AKA Thugs. That's right, they are the most tigres, thieves, muggers, murderors, etc. in the whole country. FYI Out of about 10 people that I know from my hometown, who joined the police, at least 6 of them were well known drug dealers, thieves, and all around thugs, before they joined. Not to mention, pretty much illiterate. All they needed was a "recommendation" from some relative to join the force. Next thing you know that guy that was a drug dealer is now a drug dealer or thug with an official gun and a badge.
Are you going to tell me that it is fair that out 500 murders committed since Candelier took over, less than 1% of these cops have been canceled and none taken to justice? I mean in the US a group of cops is caught on camera beating a guy (Rodney King) and there are huge riots when they're declared innocent, but in the DR a group of cops are caught on camera as they arrest and handcuff 3 people, put them on a truck, and they don't even make it to jail,before they're executed. What happened to these cops? Absolutely nothing.
The moral of the story is don't talk BS until you understand what the situation is in the DR. Don't compare NYC with the DR. The dominican police is not a force that was created to serve and protect, but a paramilitary force used to carry out the dirty work of Trujillo. Unfortunately, even though Trujillo is now gone, the same attitudes still prevail.

Who was that guy who was shot 41 times because the police thought his wallet was a gun? Or how about the haitian immigrant who ended up with a plunger up his butt and then in his mouth. Ask your father if these are the law enforcement techniques he was taught and now espouses. My guess is you probably lived in the suburbs all your life in a neat and tidy little enclave where the only face of color you saw was due to a sun tan.

Last time I visited (99), I (was asked to) make an official courtesycall to HQ Policia Nacional and the Police Training Command DGEE. I had no problems making my concerns known over the statistics of shooting incidents as published ao by Amnesty International. I saw my escort turning dark blue in the face. Not their favorite subject. I do know from conversations with several in the top brass that it is very troubling and that internal action is taken against offenders. Unfortunately, investigations of shooting incidents is done poorly, if at all.
I have high hopes for some of the junior commanders I had the pleasure to meet, work and tour barracks with. Same goes for some of the local cadre. Things are changing, but ever so slowly (tranquilo y con cautela). Some things are clear : 1/ I wouldn't mind having some officers I met, work with me here. 2/ Some of the stuff these compadres have to confront in the barrios
would make a seasoned big city cop in the US or Europe turn and run.
