Default ANOTHER TRANSLATION WEBSITE

http://www.systransoft.com/

they seem to be all alike - and indispensable!!! Teach yourself a language (I'm doing Spanish - ha!ha!) by typing in a word in one language and click the translate button and up comes the translation. So simple, so quick, so much fun! Look at this! :

y estoy teniendo un buen rato con el! Soy absolutamente bueno con el italiano asi que el espanol sera facil para mi - a excepcion de verbos y de pronombres!

If a person has learned Latin in school, he/she should be able to pick up Spanish (or Italian) quite easily, since these two languages are based on Latin and its root words. Some languages (English, too) are based on Greek root words. challenge yourself! If I can do it, you can, too! We practice everyday with a printout provided by Debbie's website.

Hasta luega!!! -Ed and Mame-

Default Other Sources!

Dear Ed & Mame,
Do you know of any other web sites that provide translations or even any good programs that I could buy. Presently I have Spanish Assistant but would like to improve on this, and recommendations?

Default El grande ventilador

You have to be careful with those automatic translators. I once used one just for fun and a sentence that read "I am a a big fan of..." was translated as "Soy un grande ventilador" which is a funny and completely incorrect translation. Just keep that in mind.

Yes, Clara - I've experienced that when I have translated Italian letters! If you later go to translate the other lange back into English it can be very wrong - AND FUNNY! But, you can get the general idea. I wonder why that is? -Ed and Mame-

Also, you have to use perfect English grammar, for the foreign language to be translated properly - and SPELLING/typos ... oh, my goodness, I've seen so many weird sentences if grammar and spelling are entered incorrectly! I just figure it's better than nothing... -Ed and Mame-

Default Computers are dumb

Although some mistranslations can be a result of grammatical errors or mispellings I think most of them are a result of the program not being able to identify which word to use depending on the context. See my previous example. Fan: electrical device or admirer.

A computer program translates word by word sometimes choosing the wrong meaning. Besides, most idioms can't be translated literally.
