Re: A significant P.S. for J.P. Madera
Joseph,
In regards to the issue of Puerto Rico. Ignoring the fact of how Puerto Rico came into the enveloping fold of U.S. domination (by conquest and absorption), did you know that more Puerto Ricans live in the mainland U.S. than on the island of Puerto Rico? After several open referendums on the issue, the people of Puerto Rico clearly have voted to accept the existing status quo of Commonwealth status within the parameters of U.S. government. The independistas have never managed to get more than 21% of the vote. Puerto Rico IS influenced by long association with the U.S. mainland. Economically, the people of Puerto Rico rely on their higher standard of living because of this association with the special perks of being a commonwealth within the U.S. It is all a part of globalization as well. Creating a human living "zoo" of cultures in isolation is impossible and often not something desired by the indigenous populations (here I am referring to tribal peoples as opposed to the people of Puerto Rico) as well.
