Default Latin/Ballroom dance

I am considering a move to the Dominican Republic. I am an avid ballroom dancer hoping that DR has good latin/ballroom dancing facilities. Can anyone answer and give me a description or contact? I have tried the Internet with no success.

I have never seen ballroom dancing here, but if you like to dance salsa, when you get here e-mail me a note so we could dance.

Default "Ballroom" dancing is different here

Here, most dancing is done either in discos or in "tipicos" or in the Clubs-Centro Espanol, Country, Amaprosan in Santiago and the country Club, Casa Espana in Santo domingo
You shouldn't have any problem getting to any of these places if you love to dance. Most will be disco or merengue and salsa..
No tangos, waltzes, rumbas or cha-cha, I'm afraid..

Not wanting to start a row and no offense to the island girl, but ......
I just love to watch the circus-act some call ballroomdancing. Those rumbas, chachacha's etc have very little to do with salsa or true latin american dancing, which comes from the heart and starts at the knees, going way up to the hips. Every year these folks gather from all over the globe, coming to the Dutch coast resort of Scheveningen (Yo, Grahame !)to perform "Latin Dance", which is a stylishly choreographed trapeze act, with everybody counting steps and using a lot of space. True Latinos don't need that, it's in la sangre.
A few years back a couple (she was Dominicana), stood up and gave an impromptu class how this thing is done. They got a standing ovation from the visitors and contestants.
Todo en broma, nada en serio, eh. Just had to get that off my chest.

Default Very different

My husband and I took ballroom dancing classes here. The American 'take' on salsa (especially merengue and guaracha) is so different. Island girl, enjoy 'salsa dancing' in the DR! You are in for a treat, a real learning experience. Your latin dance outlook will be changed forever... Enjoy!
