telehpone line

I am planning to living in Dominican Republic. And I want to use Internet there. How can I get a telehone line to use Internet?
Somebody tell me how muche is cost when getting the line, and how long would I waite to use the telephone in my house?

Santo Domingo will get you communicated very quickly. This city has more phones per capita than most cities worldwide.

A phone deposit and installation will be about US$320. Internet will cost you about $US 15 a month for the line and you would have to get the VIP plan from Codetel or Tricom at $US40 a month to save on internet air time or minutes used. With the VIP plan you do not pay for local call or internet minutes and cellular calls are charged at U.S.$0.15cents each minute. Long distance charges vary with country. Phone service is heavily taxed at 10%.

A US$60 phone bill is commonplace here without long distance.Even the poorest people carry cellulars, so expect lots of cellular call minutes charged.

Or just try to rent or buy a apt. of house with the phone line and with three bills (payed) you change it to your name and plan!

You really need a reality check Tourist Watcher. I went 8 time to the Codetel building in SD. When from one floor to another and still did not have my cell phone working.

I also waited 4 months to get a telephone line.

My freind who lives in Santo Domingo told me that I could use the telehone within 10 days if I ask Codetel for getting a telephone line.

I waited 4 months to get a telephone line. This was after countless trips to the capital.

I waited 2 weeks to get my electricity hooked up. Cellular seems to be much better.
