Default mailing address

Will be living in Cabarete and working in Sosua for a year. Would like to have my mail from Canada sent over. How does one get a mailing address?

The simplest is to sign up for a service like EPS. They have an office on main street in Cabarete, which is owned by same person who has the Sosua office that I use. Each person is given an identification number and two mailing addresses: a PO box to use for letters and a "fixed" address for parcels. Both are in Miami. The mail is addressed to that address, then brought from there to the DR by courier and delivered to the office where you signed up. I have used this service for years. There are others, but I haven't used them and have no reason to consider a change. The owner is Angie Wolff, a Canadian who has been living in the DR about 20 years. Great gal; you'll like her and she can undoubtdly be helpful to you in other ways. If you want to email her, you can do so at (s.bservices@codetel.net.do). You can tell her Ken De Pree gave you her name and address if you wish. You pay a fee of RD$300 per year, then a charge based on total weight of what is received during the month. Paying the bill within first 10 days of the month gives you a 10% reduction. If I can help in any other way, feel free to email me.

Rereading my message I note I neglected to mention that Sosua Business Services is the business that handles EPS in Sosua and Cabarette. The Sosua Business Services office in Cabarete is on the main street in the business section.

Default Just keep in mind, that

any product you like or have to import to the DR and is not originated from the US will pay custom in the US and the DR! This is because the adressee of the mail is within the US! In this case it is better working with FedEx or UPS to the DR!

Take care

If you sign up with EPS, talk with Angie about customs duty collection. I've used EPS exclusively for many years, whether it be a batch of accumulated mail or something ordered from internet. It is delivered in good time at the EPS office, and I have felt the fees reasonable. During 1997-2000 my wife and I were cruising the Caribbean in our sailboat and had plenty of experience with Fed Ex and UPS. My experience tells me that EPS charges much less than either of the other two for their service. But Sosua Business Service is also the dropoff point for FedEx, so Angie can tell you which service you are better off using if importing merchandise.

Thank-you. I have e-mailed Angie and I am waiting for a response. I'm anxious to be in the DR.
