Default Today's DR1 Daily News - Misleading

I have to object to today's DR1 Daily News. Specifically, item number 4, "Protest day turns into a shopping day for many".

If you look at today's the media, exactly the opposite is true. Commerce today was reduced to a minimum.

It really worries me when I see headlines like the one in today's DR1.

Wrote from personal experience. My office window overlooks the parking of the Multicentro on Churchill and it was packed with cars. Ditto, a neighbor called to take my sons shopping in Plaza Lama.

You judged the city's commerce from the cars you saw on a parking lot?

DR1 you may be right in one respect. Places like Multicentro, Plaza Lama and Plaza Central, with their high security and location in Piantini,Julieta, and Bella Vista, where there have never been any danger of protests or riots people will feel very much at ease about finishing up their day.

In fact, as the afternoon approaches, after the protest was called off about two hours ago, people will begin to flow out into the streets to celebrate a day off(sort off). Lincoln Avenue tonight might be a zoo, with hundreds of cars celebrating the protest success.

But areas outside of here are dead. Towns like San Cristobal are totally paralized. Capotillo is fully militarized as well as trouble towns.

Default Re: Puerto Plata - Huelga - shopping day!

DR1's summary was right on the money here in Puerto Plata. Nearly all stores were open, vehicle traffic was light. Many people were shopping or walking about. Many vehicles avoided the highways [fear of nails, broken glass, burning]. In reality, there were no disruptions of the streets. I noticed a significant police & military presence, esp. in the immediate areas of successful businesses. They were armed [tear gas], observing & waiting, very discrettly but observable. Night time [June 19] was also quiet & uneventful. The lesson? The message? An omen for future months? I don't know.

I am a Dominican that lives in US I am surprised that you think that democracy and the truth and the media are equal. Even here one has to read between the lines since the medias are use for private agendas. The News everywhere seen to be based on entertainment, not information. This has always been, and will continue to be truth. Politician use the Media best since they seems to have a foot in the door, newspaper, magazines and specially the news reports. Listen and use a fine stainer strainner to go though all the hot air.
