looking for info on backpacking in DR

We want to go backpacking in the DR in august/september this year. Looking for tips on nice places to stay, cheap accommodation and great diving spots.

I will advice Samana, definitely.

It is a peninsula on the North coast and absolutely beautiful. Lots of little roads, lots of small secluded beaches and more little independent hotels and resorts than in the other areas. You can find more information on www.samana.net.

You may also want to go up in the mountains behind the North coast. Excellent trekking areas.
