Re: Dominican? dare to open it !& Maria Obetsnazov
The last two postings are inter-related. For one, Maria hopes that the spoils system will soon end. That is a mirage. It will take another 100 years for a small semblance of political reform in this country. It has taken over 200 years in the United States and now the US Constitution is not as clear as it was 100 years ago. The US Constitution is now subject to interpretation by revisionists who have turned it into a mumble-jumble. It all depends on who is the next president and how many vacancies they have in the Supreme Court and you could have two different US Constitutions.
The only near hope for Dominican Republic would be the surge of women into political power. Dominican men have proven to be ineffective, inefficient, corrupt and patsies. Women, who carry over 57% of the vote and have shown a better record of management in public office may be the hope of the future.
Dominican women must rise to the occasion with the struggle for a Constituent Assembly which is the only way to overthrow the corrupt system of the present establishment. If women are able to muster 50% of the voting rights in a constituent assembly, there might be some hope for our country political system.
As for wether Hipolito has a chance to change our country. I would bet on his hair growing back before he can change anything. Hipolito lacks political will and power and his governmental ring is as corrupted as anything we have seen, perhaps even exceed Leonel Fernandez cabinet thieves. If anyone is interested in seeing corruption in action, just come over and visit La Francesa for breakfast or lunch, a bakery/restaurant on Lincoln Avenue and have a cup of coffee while mingling with the rich and powerful. You would be able to see and feel the talk of corruption amongst the very worst of our society. Million dollar jeepetas, Porsches, jaguars, BMWs are parked all over on Paseo de Los Locutores.A $15,000,000 parking lot was just made available for these boomers.Cellulars ringing every second.Millions exchanged in deals over coffee. And to think that this used to be one of the PLD(Leonel group) hangouts and now it has been taken over by the new breed of thieves from the PRD.
Only the background changes. Its important to note too that Hipolito has pulled a coup with the military brass. He just authorized a $17,000 retirement pay for all retired Generals and the Constitutionalists from the 65 war. That will carry some heavy weight for the upcoming power struggles with the Reformist party(Balaguer)
