PARTY PATRONAGE

The whole concept of democracy "Dominican" style leaves the purist of democracy scratching their heads.First you elect an individual and he brings a bunch of croonies that know they only have 4 years to pillage because they know there will be no continuity in government, so they have to get it while they can. Also the patronage system leave no government worker with any security at all even to the lowliest guy cleaning toilets in the government office are there thru patronage, this creates anomosity among the people that lost jobs because of party affiliation (please don't compare the DR to the US) I know is done here too, but not down to the lowest denominator (like most government worker in the DR)

knowing that the person will will be out of a job in X years would certainly induce most to take advantage of their position and practice corruption..

those with security are less likely to abuse power...
