Default Best government ever...

THE GOOD NEWS:
>>The Dominican Electricity Corporation signed a US$10 million loan agreement with a French government cooperation agency to bring electricity service to 300 rural communities in the South, East and North<<

The Dominican government complies with its duty of spreading apagones to the remotest campo of the Dominican Rep.

BETTER NEWS:
>>President Hipolito Mejia issued Decree 709-01 that establishes that distributor companies cannot shut down power service to low income neighborhoods regardless of whether large percentages of consumers in the area are paying for the service or not.<<

That’s what I call being effective governing, outlawing something really gets rid of the problem. I have a few ideas of other things that Hipolito can do in order to boost his popularity:

Outlaw traffic jams.
Prohibit garbage in the streets
Outlaw temperatures higher than 25 C degrees.
Forbid hurricanes from visiting the island.
Make Presidente free for all Dominican citizens and legally resident foreigners.
Make the weekend 4 days long (upon further revision it could be made longer).
Forbid traffic lights to turn red.
Outlaw being ugly.
Order lotto to pay prizes to everyone who bought a ticket.
Prohibit rain when one’s not at home.
Outlaw flat tires and cars overheating (I would be particularly happy with this).

I bet all of you have a lot other ideas that would help make this country better.

Default I agree, but did you read yesterdays DR1 News?

It seems that there are like 5.1 or 2 million dollars running around without an owner!!. Oh yes, they bought some cars and stuff for 35 million but they have told everybody (us, the stupid public) that they cost like 41.1 or 2 million. Why? Could it be because the person in charge of purchasing these vehicles from a phantom company is none other that Ramon Emilio Jimenez? one of the most corrupt importers for the Balaguer governments and a polished "hider" of public funds??? At least, this is what is commented on the streets of Santo Domingo!
It appears that, since the Air Force already has purchased over priced aircraft, the quickest way for the PRD to fatten its pockets is to purchase vehicles....guess they are pretty fast learners.
The best thing I have read all week is that, finally, there are some major public figures calling for a boycott on payments to the Electric Companies!! there is hope yet.

Of course the new Decree might cut the legs from this action.

One great improvement I've recently read was that a ton of money has been given to increase HIV/AIDS awareness and assistance! I'm so happy to hear this, especially for the innocent children!

Default Hillbilly, Ramon E. Jimenez & La Francesa

For those of you who had a chance to read a posting I did last week, remember I mentioned a place called La Francesa, a bakery restaurant right across from Trio cafe where all the powerbrokers casually meet over coffee to discuss how to divide up the billions we contribute with taxes. Well, it happens that this gentleman mentioned in the cargate by Hillbilly is a fixture there with the new PRD group. Last year, when the PLD government was in power, the place hosted the
PLD "corruptons"(new word I just made up). Mr. Jimenez was also part of the contingent of people seen on TV during the famous trial for the assasination of a newsreporter. Naturally, he was found innocent. All the others were found guilty and given the maximum penalty.

Default Re: Money for AIDS.Dont count on it.

The money given for AIDS will probably go 80% for administrative jobs conveniently given to members of Partido Revolucionario Dominicano thru ONGs belonging to our wonderful Senators and Diputados. Dont count on it, except more patients dying.

P.S. Did you know that every member of the Dominican Senate and the House of Representatives(Camara de Diputados) owns a Non-Governmental Organization receiving millions of unaccounted pesos for community work that is never done, and that most of them cannot be located and addresses are usually someones private home or an empty lot? Ask Nuria Piera, our Dominican answer to Oprah. The Chairman of the House,Lila Alburquerque alone owns four ONGs.

You are right about 80% is spend on administrative functions. I once applied for a job as controller for a charitable organization. Low and behold, 80% was spend in the city of Paris, and I am sure that it is not cheap there.
