Default Renewal for cedulas

For those of us who have a cedula (extranjero, no vote. Does anyone have any recent experience renewing them? Mine was done originally at the JCE Office in SDQ. Any help would be appreciated.

Did mine earlier this year & no problem (even though I was 7 years late!!!). Is yours just coming up for renewal? Where are you based?

My experience was go down with all the relevent documentation, pay over the fees due (Stamps + administrative fees due approx. RD $2,500 earlier this year) & then stand in line until your number is called. If you have the B**ls to keep pestering the lady who comes out to call the numbers (pester her nicely & with humour of course) you may get through in about 3 - 4 hours!!

Otherwise, get your lawyer to take the strain & get them to go down with you!! Best of luck - Grahame.

Things must have changed Grahame. I renewed mine last year and it took me all of 45 minutes (Yeah, got stuck with 5 people ahead of me). I presented my passport and residence card, they took my picture, enterd my data in the computer and handed me my card. Total cost : RD$0.00. No even any stamps to buy.

Just because you are 4 years late does not mean you need a lawyer - you CAN still do it yourself if your Spanish is good enough. Drop me an e-mail advising where you live & if I know a lawyer in that area, I will pass his/her name on to you. Whilst writing, tell me 'Why' you are 4 years late, it may have an influence on how you or the lawyer proceed! Grahame.

Sorry Eddy, you are absolutely correct. 0 pesos & very quick turnround (I think mine took 15 minutes). I was being stupid on my response thinking the person was asking for renewal of 'Residencia'. Must have had a mental abboration that day!! If Stanley has 'LOST' his old cedular, he will most likely have to visit the central police offices near the old immigration offices & pay RD $50 (I think that is what it cost me) to get a form stating that the 'LOSS' has been reported to & accepted by, the police.

Sorry to all I may have misled. - Where was T.W. or O & C on this occassion to tell me how stupid I was & how out of touch I am with reality??? - G.B.
