all jobs are in the spoil system. No one job is free of the political party that in at the time. So you get paid to sit behind a desk and are expected to tow the party line not do a job. This been going on for so many years no one expect anyone to know how to work. Have you look at any public employee really working yet. There is no testing, so every election, the staff changes completly, and get replace by the next bath of incapable worker. There is no such thing as check and balance anywhere. look at the recent Degree! it ridiculous, there is no real constitution that is for everyone. Without declare danger of revolution the president send out to disarm the people. the only emergency is he is not capable of being president. Generate money for those in the party, three hundred new millionaire per five years in office, bribe are from the top to the botton, starting with the big man of the party.

The power distribution company in charge of your area is AES Distribuidora del Este. They are listed as such in the White Pages of Codetel and have a 1-200-1099 number for toll free calls from the interior. Let us know what they tell you. I hear they are more likely to respond positively to clients than the Spanish-owned Edesur and Edenorte.

I called Eden-Norte here in Puerto Plata for a replacement ...actually my help did because she speaks better spanish than I do, and she was told that they would be down to check (same afternoon)... lamp that has been out since 1994... but guess what ... they forgot to ask who was calling, and the address!! You think that I expect them to replace the broken lamp!! Oh well....this is life under the palm trees !!!!!

On the Malecon in SD near the Hotel Napolitano is a street light pole, laying on it's side. I know because I saw it there last October.
