Check this out
I am a part time resident of Dominican Republic. I was just visiting a site a friend told me about called www.cubanonet.com It's mostly communists from all around It's really a funny site. Anyway today someone posted a message about Dominican Republic. It states that people are getting killed by the police during constant riots over power outages.
A 14 year old boy was shot and killed by Police in a town north of SD. I looked at all the newspapers and could find nothing about this incident.
I say... let's go over to that site and give those commies a lesson or two. Things might not be perfect in the DR but at least people here are FREEEEEEEE.... Steve

Re: Check this out
Hi Steve. Just checked out the postings concerning the apagones on the Cuban Board. I think Gracie is not really informed on the DR. There are plenty of apagones here and there is also a lot of protest. As for the killing of all these people, that to is exagerated. They talk about Casa de Campo. Well one can't consider CdC part of the DR. Elsewhere, in most tourist areas (businesses) have their own generators. But lets face it, there is a major problem with electricity here. (BUT it's getting better)

Re: Check this out
Depends on your definition of freeeeeeeedom---do you not know that you go to jail here for criticizing the president.
I honestly believe that the poor here are worse off than the cuban people who have to exist despite such a stupid US policy
Let the Cubans alone.

There is freedom in Dominican Republic
Of course the poor people in cuba live better but is it fair? The poor in Cuba know that if they work hard or not at work it doesn't matter. They are still going to come back to a house. So you can be a person that worked his ass off going to college and saving lives at a hospital and come home to a house that looks the same as one that sits home all day playing domininos.
I'll take DR over Cuba anyday.
I don't want to here it. If you are poor in DR is because you haven't tried hard enough. You didn't dedicate 4 years of college to your self, or you found walking 2 miles to school everyday was more than it was worth. So, now you get what you've earn.
Poor people in DR would love a communist system. What poor person wouldn't like to have a house and food at the expence of the professionals.
That's why the US only allows political refugees in the country.
Because they know the politicals refugees from Cuba are mostly the educated ones, the ones that are hard workers. The unuducated and lazy ones stay in Cuba, the system benefits them.
I'm tired of people blaming the goverment for everything. Blaming oficers for taking bribes? Next time an officer pulls you for an infraction you've commited inDR and he asks you for "propina," you just tell him "no sir, I broke the law and I should pay for may mistake."
Would you do that? YEAH RIGHT!! You guys complain about corruption yet you participate.

Re: There is freedom in Dominican Republic
Cubans have a much better education overall, they have better health standards than in the DR. They do not have the same "Coconut Head" mentality like the Dominicans.
You are right, too many Dominicans spend so much time making excuses for not to do something, than if they spend the same energy working towards some kind of goal.
The poor have always been their owns worst enemy. When I get pulled over for an infraction by the police, all of a sudden I cannot speak Spanish, continue speaking English, they eventually become so frustrated that they give up. Works every time.

Re: There is freedom in Dominican Republic
So what is your point. Japan has better health stardards and education system "overall," than the US. So, what??
Cuba's better "overall " education system hasn't made there "inteligent" citizens raise up agaist in justice.
WE are talking about freedom here!!
