Default Need information on shipping

I will be living in the DR for several months and am considering shipping some personal care items like shampoo instead of carrying them in luggage. Is this a good idea? If so, is there a company you would recommend?

I searched the archives, and found mostly negative information on shipping. Does anyone know a good way to handle this?

Thanks very much.

To go through the expense of shipping shampoo and similar items does not make much sense money-wise. You can purchase most personal items in the DR, lots of foreign brands sold here for not much more than abroad.

Dolores, and anyone who can answer this:
We'll be thinking about shipping (container, door-to-door process) the contents - furniture, etc.- to the village of Las Galeras - NE Samana Peninsula. (We live in NW panhandle of FL). Got a website for info on this??? Thanks for anything, everything. -Ed and Mame-

Be sure to have your residence papers or this may cost you a pretty penny.

Also, your shipment will probably arrive to Haina Port in Santo Domingo. I am not aware of container ships from Florida arriving to Samana Port.

If you do not have your residence papers, you should consider buying your household goods locally.

..... But the local brands are just as good & a LOT, LOT cheaper than you will pay in the Staes or Europe!!

You have to be very selective as to whom you use as your carrier, lots of things can (& do) go missing from parcels/packed boxes etc. Most are marked "DAMAGED in post" or "Received on this condition"!!!

Make a list of what 'personal' stuff you want & send it to someone in the area you are going to, & get tjhem to check out costs & suitability of that or equivalent products already available here!! Good luck - Grahame.

E mail us at this address and my husband can give you details. We shipped 4 containers from Kentucky to Sousa in June. Took about 8 wks. and cost an additional $2000(U.S.) to get out of customs. But everything was there , it had all been dumped, sorted thru and dumped back in.
