Default HELP! Info re Riu Merengue

I am going to the Riu Merengue in November to get married but I am very worried because I have heard that they are allowing up to 100 daytrippers in at weekends-I am concerned about overcrowding around the pool and in the restaurant.
Has anyone been there recently?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I've visited friends staying at the Riu Merengue and don't think that you'll have too much of a problem. First, the resort is enormous and has a capacity far greater than it's operating occupancy rates. Second, the Riu Merengue is located out in Miamon - a good 30 - 40 minutes from Puerto Plata (even farther from Sosua and Cabarete). I can't imagine that tourists would pay a taxi to go all the way out to Miamon. The Riu Merengue isn't like the Atlantis in the Bahamas - there is nothing there that isn't available in almost every other AI resort. Congrats on getting married.

Default No worries

My congratulations also. No matter where you go on the North Coast in November it will be busy. Like M said, you are less likely to worry about day trippers in Maimon than in a place like Playa Dorada. You're going to have a blast, no worries.

Thank you M and Marc for your replies but I have read a review on debbiesdominicantravel that states that they have started allowing 100 daytrippers in each weekend and it lists various problems caused by this.
I really need info from anyone who has recently returned from the Merengue.

I was there in June. There were a few daytrippers but not much. The hotel is most of the time full with people all over the world. Only people from the hotel can take off on the activities of the hotel. Bahia Maimon is not crowded like the Playa Dorada. Don't worry. I'm sure you will have a great time there and relax.
