Default We have woken

There was a post recently about how “Romans once could walk anywhere without fear, as Rome would punish those responsible” Once the United States maintained the same posture, but we have mellowed and supposedly adapted to the changing times. When we retaliated for a wrong, it was always with great concern not to hurt innocents or to be “politically correct”

Forty years ago, another nation tested our resolve by bombing military installations and in their own words (Japan’s Admiral Yammamoto) ‘Woke a great sleeping Giant”

I don’t think I need to rehash WWII for anyone, but when the ultimate invasion of Japan was pondered; this “Sleeping Giant” said the hell with losing 3-400 thousand Americans invading this treacherous thugs (Japan) we did the unthinkable, dropped two Atomic Bombs.

Already Arafat, Pakistan and other normally hostile nations are offering assistance and disavowing any connection with this incident. Do you suppose that those countries that have for long taunted the United States for it’s apparent lack of resolve understand that this country has been pushed to the point where any type of punishment is acceptable to her people?

The “taboo” of all politicians, using Social Security reserves for anything other than SS has already been resolved, both houses of Congress and polls show an overwhelming majority of American people don’t care what or how much it costs, those responsible should be punished and I fear that people and our Government no longer care about who suffers in the reprisals.

To kill innocent people lowers us to the level of these beasts, but when innocent people are used as shields buy these Terro4rists there is little choice.

I do not think many people realize the full consequences of this act yet, nor can anyone compute the costs to not only this country but also the entire World.

Maybe I am mistaken, but I think Bin Laden does not sleep well nor celebrate his victory; he overstepped even his evil bounds

Maybe so but how soon will you nod off to sleep again. See below link about what you may need to do....and this only applies to airline security never mind to everything else in daily life.

Killing or extracting Osama Bin Laden may prove much more difficult than you think. The Russians found Afghanistan about as easy to conquer as the US did Vietnam.

According to the experts, Bin Laden is only one name in a multinational network of terrorists. There are dozens or hundreds of others for whom we don't have names and photos. Remember who long it took the world to get Carlos?

If it was easy to rid the world of terrorists, it would have been done a long time ago by Israel.

We could face terror and destruction on a scale that would dwarf even the horrors of Manhattan. This is the greatest danger we have ever faced. Until recently, no one dealt with it. The democracies have wasted too much time. They are approaching the 12th hour. They cannot wait any longer.

The growth of terrorism has been accompanied by a steady escalation in the means of violence, including those capable of bringing down entire buildings. The very real possibility that terrorist states and organizations may soon acquire horrific weapons of mass destruction and use them to escalate terrorism beyond our wildest nightmares has not yet been addressed properly by Western governments.

"It must be recognized that, barring firm and resolute action by the United States and the West, terrorism will expand dramatically."

For the suicide bombers are only the tip of the iceberg. Their actions could not have been possible without a broad infrastructure of governments, organizations, and ideological movements that support terror, directly and indirectly. The battle lines are clear. Those who support barbaric terror are dancing in Gaza and Ramallah, Beirut and Baghdad. Those who support freedom and democracy are grieving in New York and London, Paris and Tel Aviv.

Default Fighting Terrorism

I find it ironic that for years, Israel has been fighting this exact thing: suicidal terrorist against their civilians. Up until two days ago the world was condemning Israel for their targeted attacks on terrorist leaders.

Now that this same type of attack has happened on US soil everyone is loading up their guns and are all for assasinations and full scale assaults on foreign countries associated with terrorism.

I agree with Jim's post. We (the free/"western") world has waited too long to realize that terrorism is not something that can be pushed to the side any longer. It doesn't just happen "on the news" anymore. We can't just tell other nations to stop fighting and just get along. It really hits home when it happens in a place like NY. Bottom line is that terrorism is evil, and should not be met with passive response...whether it happens in the Middle East, or in North America.

Jim post is also bang on when talks about the horrors we have yet to see. I remember how terrible I felt when I saw children and adults cheering about the attack in NY, and I pray to God that there are no Americans or Canadians partying in the streets once another country is attacked and thousands are left dead on foreign soil. A life lost is a life lost, and we are about to witness large losses of life in our now changed world.

Anny Mosity: If it were up to you we would be now throwing a party for Osama Bin Laden. Why dont you go and celebrate with the Palestinians in Gaza.

Default A life lost?

Sorry to disagree. A lives lost are not equal. A firefighter bravely trying to rescue innocent victims winds up crushed in rubble. If people celebrate that, they are garbage.

When, not if Bin Laden gets his, the world should celebrate.

Putting those two lives on equal planes is just plain silly.
