Default Medical missions

Anyone here know where I can get some information from the DR on the proper procedure for carrying medications (controlled and non controlled substances) into the country for medical missions. I cant seem to get a solid answer from anywhere or else the answers i get apply to illegal drugs etc.

Thanks
KP

In the past, we have given the Airline a detailed description of the drugs and the name of the hospital they are going to. On arrival, in the DR we were met by an Airport Official, who escorted us through Immigration & to the outside. We then went directly to the hospital and to the hospital pharmacy where we personally handed over the suitcase of sutures, antibiotics etc (which had been donated). If you don't follow a careful procedure like this, it is likely that the medicals will end up on the black market. The hospitals in DR are desperately short of supplies as simple as latex gloves. you are doing good work! Good luck, Canadian Bob.

Might I strongly suggest that you contact YOUR DOMINICAN HOST and have them research the protocol for you. It is extremely risky and dangrous if you do not follow procedure. You might contact Salud Publica and speak to the Pharmacy/Medications branch for information. Without any clear cut information and procedure to follow including names and phone numbers....I would leave the controlled substances at home for another time.
