air fares info please!

I heard the airfares has gone down a lot.True or false?
I want to invite two friends from Santo Domingo to New York
for 2 months, but I can't afford $750 each.
I can't believe it costs $750 round trip per person
and it's $425 if the trip is 30 days or less.
Go figure this one out.
And, are there any other airline beside AA serving the route?
It looks like a monopoly.

Check out this site. They have charters from NYC to Santo Domingo a couple times a week. To get a true price though you have to call them. Because the prices are not always up to date. Also make sure that you check out the baggage rule link, prior to booking. They are very strict, IE hard side luggage only without wheels. I do not like the lay out of the site and sometimes their links dont work. But there is a number you can call to get the rates. You click on Santo Domingo they only show friday flights but according to the airlines website, they have saturday, sunday and wednesday. You can not order through the airline, they seel through travel span.

Was looking at them but I would have to buy all new luggage and that would cost more then I could save on 1 week tickets, but it still might be an option.

Yes Mark I think it is called a monoploy with AA but if your going to NYC your lucky. For other parts of the country Try an excess of $1,000.00 round trip. I don't understand why the DR doesn't encourage more airlines. Even though to stay in the DR is very inexpensive, to get there makes it more expensive. AA is making more money off the Tourist than the DR makes off the entire week of the visit.

I got a little alarmed after seeing your message. I have a ticket for Santo Domingo next month. I called Travel Span. They do in fact allow the soft-sided vinyl suitcases and with wheels provided you are checking it. No carry-on suitcases with wheels. They said they are strict with the size and dimension of the checked suitcases.

I agree! The Dominican government & people should not put up with AA using them as such and bring in other airlines. A rumor surfaced several months back that Delta was considering servicing DR, but nothing ever surfaced. When competition comes, I will gladly patronize it!
