Default Speaking in Code

I just spent about an hour reading over the posts on this site. Does the adjective "respectable" mean the same thing here as it does in Jackson, Mississippi and Johanesburg, South Africa? I wish I had the luxury of not being sensitive to such things but I am regularly presumed to be stealing my own car or breaking into my own house. When people who are aparently of goodwill get comfortable throwing around ancient code words like these...nastier manifestations of this cronic human disease are generally not far behind.

o.k. Jeffy, spill the beans. Why are you so concern about color or race? What is your pedigree and where do you come from?
This will probably clear a lot of fog from your posting.

Pepe-

Im a 30 year-old African American survivor of the dotcom boom. Im not so much of a survivor that I am considering buying a villa in punta cana but enough of one that I can contemplate a long respite. I grew up in the deep South and now live in Silicon Valley where I am stopped at least 3 times per month for looking too Black in an expensive neighborhood. The thing is that, as fascinated as I am by Latin culture, I have no desire to spend my break fighting the good fight. I just want to relax and learn Spanish. Does this help?

Jeff, your spring is wound too tight......no you don't need an adjustment by AZB (probably have to take out a loan to pay the office visit anyway). No, come on down, learn how to relax, actually a good massage really does help and practice some stress removing techniques. Come with the attitude that this is your vacation and you are going to enjoy it regardless. WE having a wear...well, call me when it is over sort of relaxation. And my man, growning up in the deep south is good training. Anybody get in your face you know how to stomp on their toes all 6 feet and 190 pounds of it. Then, when things really get ready to blow.....KILL THEM WITH KINDNESS.
Come on down Jeff pop me an address (e-mail type) and i will drop you my phone number and we can chat in person. always nice to have someone you can call....specially if you in jail. lol
seriously, relax and get ready to enjoy the time of your life.It can be all you want it to be. you comming alone? the e-mail for contact ernest714@hotmail.com. enjoy

Jeff, follow the advice of the doc, and also having a contact once you're there will really help. Something to remember is you get what you pay for, so if you rent a really cheap place you probably won't be able to sleep (loud radios, motoconchos, etc)
Don't be to concerned about racism, hell, there's racism in the heart of Africa. Before you react try to understand people's meaning and intentions, as they may call you Negro(neh-gro) or Cocolo(Black dominicans with english surnames from San Pedro de Macoris)if you are very dark, but it's not with dirty intentions. Negro is a common nickname given to the darkest of the litter. Oh, another thing, you are going to be mingling with the real dominicans, so the smiling faces may not be as common as in the resorts, and since you don't know your sorroundings you have to excercise more caution, just like in any other country.
Enjoy your stay.
