Also, any suggestions on a hotel that is close
to the beach, guest friendly and not too expensive.
Mucho thanks ! :-)
Heading there Nov22-Dec4 if anyone would like
to share a Presidente.

I am not sure on the price to Sosua. It is $20.00us to Cabarete. If you want to stay there. Look a www.hispaniola.com there are several place in Cabarete on or very near the beach. Playa de Oro is reasonable and on Kiteboard beach. 809 571-0880
enjoy!

In May the price was 150-200 pesos, about $16.00U.S. When you exit customs there is a taxi stand just to the right with the prices posted. A really good small hotel is Hotel Tropix in Sosua. It is quiet, centrally located and only a 7-8 minute walk to the beach. It offers beautiful tropical gardens, pool, honor bar, a/c or overhead fans, fridge in every room, friendly staff and is very inexpensive. Many guests return year after year. The owner Sylvie Papernik was born in Sosua (her parents were refugeees). She speaks English, German, Dutch and Spanish. You can phone her at 809 -571-2291, e-mail her at info@tropixhotel.com

Default down town sosua

I wonder what contributed more to the decline in the nightlife
of beloved sosua: police, all inclusive, over valued peso??
If it wasn't for the beach I would go rather somewhere else
(Santo Domingo?)

The taxicab drivers are very united lately, and the price posted on the board when you exit the airport is the price that everyone charges...whether you live here or not...so I found out I think it is $200RD or so. If you pay in USD you will likely pay more than the 16.8 exchange, hehe.

Once there, check out the Britannia pub on Pedro Clisante, where a lot of expats hang out. They will be able to provide a lot of good advice that will make your trip even better.

I also highly recommend the Tropix. We hope to return there this winter.
