Default Difference with Punta Cana & Cabarete?

Difference with Punta Cana & Cabarete?

Is there a difference in living between Punta Cana & Cabarete/Sosua?

I've lived in Cabarete/Sosua for 8 month and had to return home, now I want to go back in DR, but I'm thinking of Punta Cana instead.

Cabarete/Sosua has changed a lot and all the Projects are becoming Non Secure, there is no more Secured gated community! EX: Perla Marina, Playa Laguna, of course the Sea Horse Ranch still have security, but it's only for the very high class folks.

Also the locals are starving for $$, and keep bugging everyone for a buck, they also come to your house and ask if you have 10 pesos to give them.

Also, I've heard that Punta Cana have their own rules! Is it true?

Gracias.

I don't like to assume, but no one replied regarding my post, so I figured that there is NO difference between Punta Cana & Cabarete living!

Thanks anyway.

If you want to live in a nice town live on the north coast. If you want to live at a 5* resort stay in Punta Cana/Bavaro. PC is nothing like Cabarete/Sosua. If you really like Cabarete lifestyle I fear that you will not like living in PC.

Hello Marc,

I've live in Cabarete/Sosua for 8 month and yes, Nature and the lifestyle is fantastic but I don't like the way the locals threat the gringos & gringas, I guess because the tourist season went down and they are now starving for money!!!

Also, all the Project in the North coast are going down the hill, they've been removing the Security to most project (no more Security Gated) supposely it's because the gringos are not paying the Security guards!!!

That's the reason why I was thinking of Punta Cana area and I will be living there and not as a tourist and hopefully there will be some security there. (I've been robbed and don't want that to happen again!)

Why do you say "If you really like Cabarete lifestyle I fear that you will not like living in PC. " can you please tell me the difference in both cities.

Thanks
Sabine

Sabine. We will need help from people that live in the PC area to give you a better picture of what "town" living is. My wife and I went there when we were looking for what part of the island to live on.

On the nort coast, you have town after town after town...all have shops, beaches, and very few have all inclusive hotels. From PP, Sosua, Cabarete, Rio San Juan, Playa Grande....you are just a short drive away. There are restaurants everywhere, and there are locals mixed with the tourists.

In Punta Cana, you have 5 star hotels lining the beaches in Bavaro, then Higuey, then nothing. Again, you would have to ask someone that actually lives in that area for a better representation of what living there is like.

The only way to know is to head down there and try it for yourself. Then let me know how it worked out! Also, not sure what you would do for work down there either...
