Does anyone know where to buy quality furniture in Santiago?

Re: furniture in Santiago
What sort do you want. We bought great rattan furniture for our apartment from the fabric. High quality and good prices. Great selection. we also had a coffee table fabric by a factory that makes furniture from iron. If any of this is of interest, I'll send details. But good furniture of all sorts is available in Santiago. We just prefer the rattan/wicker variety since it is much more tropical than the heavy stuff common in the north.

Re: furniture in Santiago
That is good. I was hoping to get both wicker and a more north american type couch.

I would not use Mobel in Santiago
because I have had some problems with them and their warranty. This is the old Bambusa company, now named Mobel, and is located just outside of Santiago(going direction of the capital) on the right side of the autopista. I bought about $ 9,000 USD worth of rattan and wicker style furniture from them in which they assured me came with a 5 year warranty, since they make it, they said, they'll stand behind it. However, after less than 4 months, we've had frames start to come apart, finishes smudging off, and worst, ALL of the upholstered cushions have deformed and flattened into an unshapely mess (this was a concern before purchase and was assured at "least five years" before compression, etc.). After months calling, going by, and still receiving the "call back tommorrow routine", we were finally told last week that they could not redo the cushions because we were "sitting on the furniture too much" and the warranty would not apply. Needless to say, I regret the fact that we made this purchase and would warn anyone considering buying from them that regardless of the pre-sell promises, they do not honor their warranty.

Re: I would not use furniture makers
Not only do you have to watch out for warranties, but watch out for you local or "expert" cabinet maker. He will ask you for a deposit of 50%, which you will never see again, and the furniture might be ready by the next third generation of your siblings. His shop will move every month. His phone will probably be a cellular. His wife will be in charge of lying to you everytime you call. Heed this warning!

Re: furniture in Santiago
I suggest you check out the rattan factory store in Navarette. Their work really is excellent, I am very satisfied with their stuff. Sorry I can't remember their name, perhaps someone else can help. Good luck!, Canadian Bob.

This is the second one of these
The place in Navarrete is called "Mimbre y Rattan Navarrete" the owner is Tito Bueno...easy to find and i can recommend him also.
As far as fine furniture: Nouel, Alexander and VON are all in Santiago..
I can't think of how to spend over 100,000 pesos on Rattan furniture!! Did someone do the wholehouse??
Have to agree that it is more "tropical"

Yep, practically the whole house!
Three sets of couch, loveseats, chairs & ottoman, beveled glass top tables, two dining room sets, one with coral top, one beveled glass, each with six chairs, two bedroom sets with dressers, night tables and mirror sets. And the furniture is very attractive. My main gripe is that the written and verbal warranty is apparently useless, and the warranty was as much of a consideration as the look of the furniture at purchase time. Oh, live and learn I guess. I simply wanted to give a heads-up to Shayndel and any other possible client of Mobel that if you consider buying from them, do not attribute any monetary value to the warranty in your price valuation aspect of your decision.

Re: Wicker Furniture
We bought our furniture from Artesania Rattan, CXA on outskirts of Santiago. Tremendous selection, great workmanship, good prices. And they stand behind their work. About 8 months after delivery, we noticed wood dust accumulating beside one of the beds, which indicated bugs were eating the wood. They sent a truck to pick it up (to Sosua), took it back for treatment, and returned it. They would do the same if it were more years old. That is part of their guarantee.
They have been in business since 1967. If you can't find what you like in the factory (unlikely, given the variety and quantity available) they will manufacturer to your specifications. Show them a picture. They will also modify one of their regular products if you want some changes.
The phone is 809-971-6440, fax is 809-582-7097. If you call, speak with Yolanda. She speaks fairly good English.
