Default Jan, Jan,Jan.

I hope you understand you are not moving to another US state. No negativity here, just a little bit of common sense, and I hope you don't find youself in a predicament after some time there. If I were you I would arm myself with a little bit of cash to just spend the winter there, look at the real life, come back to the US and then make some final decisions. If I remember, I think you said you are taking a dog with you, and that would compound any problems if they arise.
Good luck and God Bless.

Default Re: Jan,Jan,Jan listen to Pepe

Jan: Listen to what Pepe said.very carefully. This is not like it used to be when people bought cigarettes in New Jersey(remember no taxes?) to sell them in New York or crossing a few blocks from one state to another to buy cheaper gasoline. You may end up losing the little cash you have. Now I hope to see a long thread of the Positive Thinking Club telling you to come over, a bright day awaits you! Of course, these guys are as bad as Calle Duarte pickpockets.

I understand what your saying. But its a little too late togo back now. I have nothing here to return to. No house,no car,no belongings,I sold everything I own..which ended up not being worth much, to follow a dream I have had for over a year now. So I have no choice but to make this work. I know its not usa but I have always been able to survive. I am 42 and decided its time to do what I dream instead of being stuck in a rutt for ever.I see perple got old and never did what they dream and its sad.I refuse to not be like that! People waiting around to retire then theyer too old to enjoy life.If it doesnt work out I can always return to usa and start over..I can be a waitress anywhere here. But I do appriciate your concern, and thankyou, but its a bit too late now to turn back!!!

Jan,I assume, not withstanding your move to the DR.,that you are an intelligent woman. You may be able to give private English lessons. If you have worked in the legal,or medical fields, you could advertise in (Listin Diario, and Ultima Hora) to give lessons to dominican students bound for the USA to study in these areas.Be aware that those who seem so happy to "help" you,as a "friend",and then ask for money, are looking for your money, and not your friendship! Also,"A fool and his money are soon parted!" Keep that return ticket in a safe place.Get online when you arrive so we can help you out if needed. Thomas Pobert

Jan

Go for it girl. I hope everything works out well for you - I wish you everything you would wish for yourself. Dreams can come true, you just have to put a little work into making it happen. Keep me posted on how you get on.

I know all will work out well.I know there are many people that say they will help..i have learned not to expect anything and to appriciate things when they happen! Did that come out the way I meant it? Anyhow..I am very possitive and all will be good.I am not lazy. Just dont care about owning all the "crap" anymore.I want to enjoy my life! And I do! Keep in touch with me here and I'll keep you informed on my progress! Thanks everyone! Lets all get together for a presidente when I get there!!!

If it doesn't work out, you can go back home. You've already done the hardest part - getting rid of your stuff! You will be a richer person for having moved and lived here, regardless of if you decide to stay.

Good luck!
