Going to live in DR and in need of a house
My most sincere condolences go to the Dominican people in this difficult time.
I feel that my request is quite heartless in a time like this, and I'd like to assure everyone that, although I've never lost anyone in a plane crash, I know what it feels to lose a loved one unexpectedly.
Now, on another matter, I am going to live in DR for 3 to 4 years some time in mid 2002. However, before I move there, I want to look at the country and make sure that my kids (2 minors) like it. So, we are going to spend our Christmas holiday in DR and will be staying there for 3 weeks. I would like to rent a house (furnished, 3 bedrooms) for the duration of my stay. If I do accept the assignment, upon return in October 2001, I will rent an unfurnished house/appartment. I would like to know if anyone knows of a reliable and professional, business-minded real estate agent that could find me a house within my budget (US$1500 -$2500) for the 3-week vacation. I have tried contacting Remax and Century 21. While one (Remax) told me that they only work with clients looking for something in the North, the other (Century 21) didn't even bother replying to me. Meanwhile, I've looked through every DR-related website, and couldn't find any listing of property for rent in the Santo Domingo area. The house does not have to be in the city exactly, it could be in any town outside of Santo Domingo. But since, most likely, we will be living in the capital (if we do come back), I'd rather be in the surrounding areas for this first time as well. I have looked at the aparta-hotel option, but would prefer the flexibility and freedom of a house or apartment.
If anyone knows someone willing to rent a furnished house for 3 weeks, please let me know through this message board or contact me via e-mail at "Nomad_of-DC@hotmail.com". We have lived in most parts of the world and in some quite unstable countries, so we can adjust to the DR reality, whatever it may be. However, safety, cleaniless of the house and wel
