Default Helping Quisqueya in time of need

If you are intrested in volunteering in New York City to aide the families of the victims of AA flight please call the Dominican Consulate at 212-768-2480.

May God gives us the strentgh to accept what we can not change.
Que Dios nos bendiga.

Yes, but with a word of caution, be careful that you try to help perhaps in a direct form to the families, if possible, because in my opinion the Dominican Consulate is not a trustworthy place for donations. Even the Red Cross right now is under heavy questioning for their misuse of WTC funds. Just remember, the Dominican Consulate personnel are all political appointees and the Consulate feeds itself from poor Dominicans in New York with unusually high fees for services and documentation, many of them not even required under Dominican laws. WATCH OUT WITH YOUR MONEY!

Better yet, every Dominican Consul in New York, no matter what administration has become a millionaire, not just in pesos but in dollars. These guys are bold enough to charge up to US$100 for their signature on a legalization. This money goes directly to their honorary fund, not the government's kitty. They have been known to have deals with local photographers in the area and force Dominicans to have as many as a dozen pictures taken for something that either needs no pictures or at best two pictures. Consular Invoices are their big money maker. Whenever they legalize one of those unecessary documents, which are not used in any other country in the world, they charge by the bulk of the freight, and the take is quite bulky. Plus, they get involved in many social activities, parties and parades where they sell tickets and provide all the supplies thru their preferred suppliers at the expense of our poor suckers(The Dominicans in New York) who are full of patriotic pride. Shameful! Not to mention that he or she is the political person with the briefcase who pursues political contributions for the party in power. Quite a take.

TW is 100% correct in his disclosure of the wealth that can be accumulated as being the Dominican consul in NY.
I know what Thomas Roberts will say “here we go again with Mr. Know-it-all….etc”.
But the truth is that I personally know an ex consul appointed to NY. Yes, he is filthy rich and carries himself accordingly (Hint for TW: he is from the PLD party…you know who he is?). He is a nice fellow but very rich and drives expensive jeepita. He may run in the next elections for president.

That is of course, unless he ends up in Najayo one of these days. Of course, with all that money he can buy the entire Supreme Court. Judges here are very cheap for people like him, you see, the usual fee for a Judge at the Instructional level of $250,000 pesos may be high for some but not for these hi-caliber mafiosi.

THe reason I posted this info re: the consulate was if people were interested in helping in this time of need as translators, social workers etc. Helping our people in time of need.

THANK YOU, MELISSA!!! Whatever may have happened with the consulate in times past [we all know that mierda pasa] PLEASE KEEP THE PAST OUT OF THIS NOW. I "ONLY" lost a friend in the crash; it is NO LESS DEVESTATING. To those of us who live in New York, this was a third devestation in two months[right behind WTC and anthrax]. Basta ya!

There is another organization that is located in la comunidad that is seeking volunteers: it is the Alianza Dominicana, located on 179th and Amsterdam. To TW et al-- there's always more than one answer.
