Sousa Bay Club
I am looking for any information anyone might have about a new hotel/resort opening in Sousa called the Sousa Bay Club. It is being offered out of Ontario and we were thinking of coming but had unpleasant experiences 6 years ago when we went to P.Plata.
Thanks

Re: Sousa Bay Club
I think you will be pleasantly surprised. We saw Sosua Bay Club being built and it is wonderful. Sosua Beach may or may not be a disappointment. The beach is very nice and can be very calm - great for snorkeling. The beach is lined with vendors, cafes, restaurants, massage parlors (ligitimate), and bars. It is a fair-like atmosphere. Beach chairs can be rented for the day and you can get whatever you want to drink, eat, etc. all day long. Sosua Bay Club is owned by AMHSA and they have added this hotel to their web site.
Sosua is a wonderful little town with a lot of very good restaurants, a casino, and shopping. Not far from Sosua is Cabarete which is nice to visit as well.

Re: Sousa Bay Club
Thanks Gloria - we are looking for somewhere pretty quiet and not tonnes of action but a nice beach and good food. We weren't sure if it was actually finished or not - Sunquest was saying yes but we don't completely trust the travel company. Amy

Re: Sousa Bay Club
I had asked about this property a few weeks ago and didn't think it was still being called Sosua Bay Club. The response I got was that it was not finished. So, I would be a little suspect. Perhaps Gerd is watching this board and can reply again if this is going to be done by December. I am almost certain I had heard of another name for it. Perhaps there are two side by side being built simultaneously.

Re: Sousa Bay Club
Sosua Bay Club is being built on the site of the former hotel Coralillo, which my uncle built. My understanding is that it will be open for business in December.

Uhhh, Amy? For quiet, I think I would
look elsewhere in the DR. Maybe Playa Dorada, or one of the nice little places in Cabarete, where you still have the ooption to party if the mood hits you. There is the ibero Star in Puerto Plata that my son says is the best on the North Shore.
And if QUIET is important, really important, try Villa Serena in las Galeras, or Andy's place...Super relax...
Hope this helps, cause I don't think sosua is gonna be your destination this time, except for beers at Britannia and Eddy's, that is....

Re: Sousa Bay Club
Considering that this year ends in 34 days it's like expecting a miracle, to hope it is going to be open in December.
I just drove by there and you actually see that there is progress. They're even working at night now, but will this help?
I bet a case of beer it won't. Anyone wants to take the bet?
Since there is no sign or such a thing with a name on it (where would you want to put it, stick it on a piece of wood in a pile of mud?) I don't know under which name it's gonna open one day.... We'll see....
But I'm positive it will change the whole corner for the better, so I can't wait myself, to see the whole thing open up and be filled (hopefully) with life.

Re: Sousa Bay Club
Dodus Bay Club is just a new ****ing all Inclusive. The all inclusive's is killing Sosua. This old pearl of a city is slowly dying, because of the all inclusive hotels. So if you realy wants to go on an all inclusive hollyday, please choose another place!

Re: Sousa Bay Club
BE CAREFUL, BEFORE PLANNING TO STAY THERE. MAKE SURE IT IS OPEN. I HAD 4 PEOPLE FROM NORWAY SHOW UP AT THE WINDSURF IN CABARETE ON THE WEEKEND. THEY WERE BOOKED IN THAT HOTEL AND WERE VERY SURPRISED AND UPSET TO FIND IT WAS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION.....WE GAVE THEM ROOM AT THE INN.

Re: Miracle
It would be if that place is ready by December. Pre-fab with walls so thin that you will be able to hear the person in the next room change their mind. A long way from the cosy and romantic years of Tommy's (God rest his soul) Coralillo.
