Default Your new "proposed" methods

I say "proposed" in quotes, as I hope you are not so naive to beleive your proposals will work. For thousand of years, people have rebelled against censorship, opression, tyranny or which you care to call it; all failed.

In today's society, where global communications exist, and even the most repressed nations can find freedom on the Internet, you will fail in any attempts at further cencorship

It would appear you know most of your “regular” posters quite well, maybe 75% of them. Have you ever had the simple thought of the “honor system, or do you think these people below the integrity to sustain such a method of enforcement.

I see many “regular” posters running wild, posting on subjects you couldn’t connect to the DR with 1000 miles of string, yet a I see a few of the more prolific posters making comments with impunity, then I see others making posts directly related to the DR deleted, apparently not belonging to your group

It is a sad sad day when I must observe censorship, segregated clubs or chat room, or the secretive gathering of information in any way. Has anyone made any posts that have caused harm to anything but your personal ego? You may wish to re-think your final solution for this board, where it has been what made it and if you truly wish to destroy it simply because of your megalomania

From my perch, I see the only way you will ever have what you want, a sterile little board where you appear as King, to be wishing to collect more information than IP’s by the introduction of passwords and of course the user provided information to obtain them, is a private database of people viewing habits, computer access and what not for a reason you choose not to disclose.

I predict a rapid fall of this site once you start implementing these draconian measures

I may not be a favored poster, or one missed, but I will be missing. I have seen too often what power hungry webmasters collect, sell and otherwise use in their seemingly "honest" efforts to keep a site "moderated"

I think that your use of the word,"censorship" is misguided!I Feel that DR1 has every right to "enforce guidelines" as stated in the "legaleze" on their web site. We are all "guests" on this site.Their site! Just as You and I have the "right" to tell a "guest" in our house to "shut-up" or even, "get the hell out!"DR1 has the same "rights on this board!Criss

If I remember correctly, a few weeks ago several people complained to Rob about some of the extraneous matter that was on the site. Rob is trying to make those folks who don't enjoy our witty humor and satiracl backstabbing, etc. I don't think he is trying to be "King".

As far as censorship, DR1 is not the government but a private organization and they have the right to censor. I enjoy 99% of the post on the board but do wish certain words and phrases weren't used especially since this is supposed to be an information board and should be clean enough that younger people can get on to it and ask questions without being blocked out by software because of a few indiscrimnate bad words. thats my only gripe, i enjoy the repartee and have joined in once in a while.

Default This board is...

privately owned and funded. We have the right to run or administer it anyway we see fit. If someone has a problem with this, I suggest they look at alternative sources for information on the Dominican Republic.

As I have said, this is all food for thought right now...

Default Not misguided, but directly on

First, I have told the webmaster numerous times I would cease posting if he found me offensive (most of your personal opinions carry no weight with me)

Criss;

I don't advertise my host to the public as the "DR1 Message board, " or the single largest Informational service for the DR on the Internet," with htose boasts come responsibility.

I understand you allegiance to the webmaster, you are the singularly worst abuser of these so called guidelines and after the webmasters suggestion of yesterday that we should "now look to see who "deserves (What a foolish statement) passwords, it behooves you to "kiss up" a bit

I must first ask what your comment of a post to the owner of the board has to do with the DR, would you not consider this a "personal attack" in lieu of a "on topic post"

I asked webmaster a question and proposed a solution, positive post, you simply attacked me out of ignorance.

I must first ask what your comment of a post to the owner of the board has to do with the DR, would you not consider this a "personal attack" in lieu of a "on topic post"

Would it not been more appropriate if yoiu had a dissenting view to post that view instead of simply whining and brown nosing?

As others have said, you seem to find solace in criticizing others rather that posing rational thoughts. It would go a long way to enhance your credibility if you just once had an original thought v. a rabid attack to something not directed to you

When a standard equitable method of "approving" posts is applied, it is within the realm of "rules," when arbitrary and capricious selection is applied, it is censorship.

And now in readin my reply to a reply, I am dragged into this world of negative posting by the very man you thrives upon it. I beleive it best to not answer his posts in the future

Manfred

Please do not bother to drag out this string if you do not grasp these principles

Rob

It is quite obvious that "privately owned and funded. We have the right to run or administer it anyway we see fit." and you do

Unfortunately many new people are led to believe it is an impartial news service, and many of your regular posters provide a sad commentary regarding your country

As I have said multiple times, if you feel I have gone outside your self designed and selectively enforced ambiguous rules, say so and as a gentleman I will leave. But you should bear in mind that people such as myself talk, and belong to many "civil Liberties forums" so there will always be a "Manfred" on your board until you reduce it to two "approved" people

Free honest speech has a way of self regulating, maybe you should experiment?

Maybe you are thinking "Germanic" and writing English! I doubt if Rob thinks I,m "sucking-up" to him, I,ll leave that to the "expert" AZB! Criss

You mean that post up above was in the "KINGS ENGLISH? Look, you are from England,so is Carol. You are some kind of "self-anointed",Tight-assed, "anti-censorship" Guru, and Carol is a Witty,interesting,fun-loving woman! I like carol, you can kiss my "assets" (dominican ones),just to make this "legal"! Point being ,there is no point! Lighten up! This is not the United Nations, and what you and I think or post has very little bearing on the price of tea in China!Reguardless of what you say "we" think Rob is just about "perfect", and will defend him when "threatened". He knows when to "step on the gas",when to "brake" and hopefully,in your case, when to "turn off the ignition!"Criss

Default Re: Support for the Board

I am in full support of efforts by the board to make dr1 an intelligent source of information about the Dominican Republic.

It is not, nor to my understanding ever intended to be, a sandbox for a few to play in, firing "witty" barbs and nasty putdowns.

A few frequent posters, who prefer the latter, my look elsewhere. But those serious about getting information and/or providing help will be pleased with the change.

So please make your changes, Rob and Board. I believe the demise of the message board will occcur faster if you don't.
