Why Not? Just my 2¢
Manfred has an "adult approach" to this thing. Rob has a "practical" viewpoint.
My few years experience of surfing the web and especially chatrooms or message boards-eclectic at best has been this.
Passwords do not work. Assholes are just that and they will get around passwords, do aliasis, fake up identities, and so forth.
Passwrods tend to limit free participation. Without free access we would not get the "kens" of this world, or the "hillbillies" or the "PIBs" (not really but you know what I mean). My experience indicates that if you *oblige* posters to use an e-mail address, like this post, you tend to intimidate the a**holes at least a bit...since they can then be attacked in their home computers or office computers..
Passwords complicate the system, and I do believe in K.I.S.S.
The "DELETE" priviledge of the webmaster is the ultimate power, and if used wisely, can be an effective deterrant.
Again, this is just my 2¢ worth.
